Meet Xesca Ribas of Barcelona Bridal Week

Xesca, as you are working at Barcelona Bridal Week, can you tell us a little bit about the event?

BBFW is the only bridal fashion trade fair in the world that combines the media impact of a Fashion Show with the business generated at a Professional Trade Fair. Together, the two events combined make up the world's most comprehensive event for bridal fashion sector. BBFW attracted more than 18,000 visitors this year, which saw 260 brands present their new collections for 2017. More than 650 key buyers attended the Trade Fair, where 20,000 bridal gowns and ceremony dresses were presented.

What is your role at the Barcelona Bridal Week?

I’m a member of the communication team for Barcelona Bridal Fashion Week and other events organized by Fira de Barcelona. What I do is basically get in contact with all the media involved in the fair, negotiate sponsoring agreements with some of them, coordinate different contents published about BBFW, organize emailing campaigns and newsletters, supervise our social media communication… All what COMMUNICATION means!

What do you like most about your job?

Being part of a project that you can actually live, bring to life, materialise. I mean, you work hard and for a long time and sometimes you don’t even see the result of your work, but here, working at BBFW, you can really feel and live what you’ve been preparing during months. Plus, if you are working with a nice team which you get along with, you are able to enjoy your job even more!

What is your professional background? How did you become a part of the Barcelona Bridal Week?

My professional background stems from advertising and cinema. After almost 10 years working in shootings, I started a new career here at Fira de Barcelona. It was a great opportunity for me because I had no previous experience organizing trade fairs. I’m happy to tell you that there is always time to change your professional career and make use of what you’ve learned before.

Did you always want to work for a great fashion event like the Barcelona Bridal Week?

To be honest, I wasn’t just thinking about what a great fashion event the Barcelona Bridal Week is when I tried to work here. I was thinking of organizing big events like Barcelona Bridal Fashion Week. But then, I was able to discover what the fashion industry has to offer and realized that it’s even more interesting for me. I must say though, organizing in general is my thing.

Any advice for those who want to pursue a career in fashion?

Work hard and enjoy what you do.
