BA (Hons) Fashion Accessory and Textile Futures

Course Summary School: Ravensbourne University

Location: United Kingdom, London

Education: Diploma

The Fashion Accessory Design degree programme gives you the opportunity to work with digital design techniques to create innovative accessories for this diverse and vibrant sector of the fashion design industry.
The fashion accessories market has experienced major growth over the last decade, from luxury leather goods labels to cutting edge sports brands pushing the boundaries of materials and technology. There is currently huge demand for young creative graduates who can rework traditional approaches and understand the cultural as well as technological aspects of fashion accessory design.
Ravensbourne offers you the opportunity to become a digital design native in a forward thinking community. All our students are eligible for a £300 bursary towards a new laptop, plus the full Adobe Creative Suite (including Photoshop, Illustrator and InDesign), amongst other creative software, is free for all our students throughout their degree.
Experimentation and innovation, an eye for detail and research based approaches are the core essence of our teaching, covering a mix of creative practice and theory-based learning. With its interdisciplinary and collaborative approach, you will be introduced to a vibrant maker-culture. The course is delivered through a wide range of lectures, talks from external visitors, seminars, practical workshops and in-depth individual tutorials. In addition, self-directed study and group projects will prepare you for your professional life.
We welcome students onto the course who are interested in working with and for the human body and have an interest in new technologies and materials. Graduates will be prepared to pursue a wide range of careers within the accessory design world - bag or luggage design, eye wear, jewellery and sports accessories are only some of these sectors. The course will ask for deter-mination, hard-working and success-driven individuals with a keen eye for detail like you can see in the below lookbooks of student work.
As a student at Ravensbourne you will experience working with and for industry. With an integrated and accredited work placement in your second year, you will gain the invaluable opportunity to work in industry, applying your skills and knowledge in a professional context. Students on Fashion Accessory Design have completed work placements at renowned brands Ralph and Russo, Aitor Throup, Tatty Devine, Sophia Webster and Carianne Moore, amongst many others.
You will also work on live industry briefs, gaining feedback directly from industry professionals and giving you the chance to collaborate across subject disciplines. Ravensbourne has pioneered this approach with industry partner VF Corporation, as shown in the film below.
By the end of your degree you will have an accomplished and professional body of work, ready to showcase to Press and Indus-try. You may be looking for your first design position in industry, wish to start your own business or explore options of further study. Our students showcase their graduate collections and portfolios at Graduate Fashion Week, with three FAD students selected to participate in the catwalk show in 2017. Additionally two of our students were awarded as runners-up in the prestigious YKK Accessories Award at GFW this year.
